Petal Haydn 59" Upholstered Metal Powder Coat Bench

Petal started with a profile sketch that looked more like a surfboard than a bench. Long, slim, tapered at both ends, and slightly domed across the top. We kept coming back to that shape because it solved a problem most rectangular benches ignore: the corners. Squared off benches bruise shins, snag fabric, and visually harden any room they sit in. Petal has no corners to catch.

The seat is Ply & Foam Upholstery in a warm, earthy tone with a soft grid tufting pattern across the surface. The tufting is shallow and wide, creating gentle surface undulations rather than deep button pulls. The cushion tapers toward both ends, narrowing gradually so the bench reads as a single, continuous organic form rather than a rectangle with rounded edges.

The Black Powder Coat Mild Steel frame is a pair of sled leg loops, tubular steel bent into U shapes that sit flat on the floor and rise vertically to meet the underside of the seat. There are no stretchers, no cross bars, no additional bracing. Just two clean loops of metal, set inward from the ends, letting the tapered cushion overhang on both sides like wings.

The sled base is deliberate. On hard floors, it distributes weight across a wider contact area than point legs, which means no scratching, no wobbling, and no felt pads peeling off after a month. On rugs, it sits flat and stable without sinking.

At 59" x 17.5" with a 17.5" seat height, Haydn is long, lean, and low enough to tuck beneath a window, run along a hallway, or sit at the foot of a bed without blocking the view. It is the bench that enters a room the way a leaf lands on water.
