Torrent Demus 54" White Ash Dirty Olive Bench

Torrent came from a doorstep. Literally. We were visiting a home in Ahmedabad and noticed that the most used seat in the house was not inside. It was a low concrete ledge near the front door where the family sat every evening to watch the street. No cushion, no backrest, no design intention. Just a surface at the right height, in the right place, used every single day.

We wanted to design something with that same inevitability. A bench that felt like it belonged at the entrance of a home not because it was placed there, but because it could not have been anywhere else.

The seat is a single, thick slab of Dirty Olive White Ash, wide and clean with squared edges and a visible end grain that gives the piece an almost timber beam quality. The finish is warm and muted, an olive tone with grey undertones that sits comfortably against concrete, stone, and plaster without competing with any of them.

The legs are where Torrent earns its name. Two stacked column pedestals, each made from dozens of individual Dirty Olive White Ash slats layered horizontally with uniform gaps between them. The effect is architectural, like looking at the cross section of sedimentary rock or the spine of a book. Light passes through the gaps, shadows shift throughout the day, and the legs appear to breathe in a way that solid columns cannot.

At 54" x 14.5" with an 18" seat height, Demus is narrow and purposeful. The slim 14.5" depth was designed for entryways, porches, and corridors where space is tight but the need for a proper seat is real. It is the bench that greets you when you come home and sends you off when you leave.
